Stay in School Project gives children hope of completing their education and shaping their future.
In Kenya, many students are at risk of dropping out of school due to lack of funds or other problems which plague impoverished and vulnerable children. We provide what children need to stay in school including school fees, uniforms, supplies, and emergency assistance with healthcare and nutrition. We focus especially on the transition to high school. Many impoverished parents can manage the minimal expenses at primary school, however, the cost of high school can prove to be too much. Without a high school certificate in Kenya, it is nearly impossible to apply for a job even at the local department store. Keeping kids in school to high school graduation makes that much difference!
We learned very quickly that just paying school fees and providing uniforms does not guarantee success in learning. We have been developing our own Baraka Care Children’s Foundation brand of mentorship that includes one-on-one follow up, group meetings, school visits and thematic talks for students. After graduating from high school, our sponsored students have the opportunity to volunteer at Baraka Care Children’s foundation projects for several months. They gain digital proficiency, explore their talents and acquire new skills as they work as part of the Baraka Care Children’s Foundation team in the Centre and in the field with our Digital Reading and eLearning for Schools programs. These activities help them build their self-awareness and guide them in their future plans for work or further study.
